Michelle Scott Tucker is writing a biography on Louisa Lawson due for publication in 2027. She noticed eleven of the journal's first twelve editions are missing! They're not held by the Mitchell Library, not scanned to microfilm, and not digitisted and online in Trove! Do they exist out there somewhere?
Michelle writes
"So, given The Dawn’s widespread popularity, the Mitchell Library is undertaking a call-out. The library would like YOU to check your cupboards for copies of it. Or your sheds. Or those boxes under the house. We’d also like those wonderful community libraries that in many places still exist – often called Schools of the Arts in New South Wales and Mechanics Institutes in Victoria – to double check their archives. Surely someone has those missing copies of the The Dawn stashed away somewhere? If that’s you, then the Mitchell Library can’t wait to receive your email at collections@sl.nsw.gov.au "
