Given the success of the campaign - and the long silence, it seems a good time for an update on where things are at.
1. All of our generous supporters should by now have received receipts either from the National Foundation for Australian Women or from the National Library of Australia that enables them to claim a tax deduction for their contribution.
2. The NLA put The Dawn on the Availability Schedule of the Australian Newspapers Digitisation Program for 2011-2012
3. Senator Kate Lundy mentioned the Digitise The Dawn campaign in her speech to Council for the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences conference "HASS on the Hill".
4. The campaign report was published in Australian Feminist Studies
5. A paper has been accepted for presentation at the National Conference on Women, Leadership and Democracy in Australia which is taking place in Old Parliament House on 1-2 December 2011
6. Cathy Pilgrim from the NLA recently sent in this quick update:
I can let you know that we are scheduled to scan the microfilm of The Dawn by the end of the year (the microfilm is actually owned by a commercial scanning bureau in Sydney so we will be working with this company to get the work done). We will then send the digital images for Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and content analysis processing in early 2012 with the aim of having The Dawn online in Trove in time for International Women's Day in early March.
